Recap of Camden Fly-In w/Virginia/Carolinas Antique Aircraft Assn. Thursday Sept. 29 thru Sunday Oct 2.

Submitted by CAC Member Chris Hudson, our host for the event:

Several CAC members arrived Friday prior to the 1000 local Camden departure for Timmonsville's Sonny Huggins Memorial grass airfield, where we sliced onions and sausages for Billy Price's fabulous Low Country boil stew, which all 65 attendees consumed rather aggressively.  Billy operates a fine-condition Stearman spray plane and 2-3 Ag Cats from 58V and planned to lay down 2 loads of pesticide that evening after lunch.

We hopped the 33 NM back to KCDN and the hangar flying and networking commenced on a large scale, with the annual pilgrimage to Sam Kendall's excellent eatery on Camden's Broad Street for Friday's dinner.  The fly-in traffic accelerated rapidly Saturday, with CAVU and a perfect coolish day for the multiple antique and classic aircraft which appeared from all directions.   In evidence were Champs, C-140s, Cubs from J-3 thru J-5, Swifts, 3 Wacos, Stearmans, Meyers OTW, several C-180s and 3 195s, 2 mint Comanches, BE-18s, DC-3, Barons, Aerostar, Aztecs, C-310s, and PC-12, among the  usual (and a number of superb) spamcans from Wichita, Lock Haven and Vero Beach, and a Fotzenmuller Partridge in a pear tree.  Saturday's airport lunch and evening banquet were delivered with gustatious flair by Camden's Hall's Catering.

The culminating banquet Saturday with DC-3 and Alexander Aeroplane maven Ron Alexander as speaker was absorbing and lively, with excellent victuals and just enough Tea Party hour (no, not that Tea Party!!) to have everyone in festive mode.  Those who missed Camden should not miss VAA/CAC Camden 2017 from October 5-8, when we will again coincide with Camden's Downhome Blues Festival on Broad Street, with upbeat -and gut bucket- tunes each evening to go with your favorite a/c and aviators.
